Short description of the project: „ICT4D “
The development of the ICT4D is closely connected with the idea to make information for all humans accessible, promote information exchange among them and improve their livelihoods and quality of life.
We believe that than ever before, Information, knowledge and communication are key factors to development. We want people of Rwanda and particularly women to make use of ICT as a powerful economic and social factor for development.
This is our main goal in setting Multipurpose Telecentre mainly in the rural areas beginning in the North-West Province of Rwanda. The successful implementation of this project will improve living standards and quality of live for more people and will enhance the development of sectors like education, health, agriculture and the informal sector of business. In addition; specific women training in ICTs will enable more women to get into new areas of technology and services and consequently taking full advantage of all that the applications bring to development and to poverty alleviation. People will have anymore to do kilometres and kilometres in order to make use of ICT services.
Target Beneficiaries of the use and specific training in ICTs and capacity building are among others Students, teachers, craftsmen, cooperatives, NGOs, women and youth in the rural areas.
Telecentre are an innovative infrastructure beginning with the aim to increase the equal participating of city and country in the information and communication technology (ICT), so that also rural population above all women and youth can profit more strongly from the information technology.
Development Objectives. The main objectives of this project are the following:
1) To create an enabling environment where women and youth will actively participate in the development process and expand women’s and youth’s role in ICTs and its new services.
2) To improve the basic economic conditions and lifestyle of the population.
3) To facilitate affordable and easy access to basic telecommunications and information services by ensuring that the benefits of telecommunications applications and services are available to all. 4) To guarantee an easy access to telecommunications services for students, teachers, farmers and craftsmen, etc.
5) To encourage women’s participation in ICTs by enabling them to make use of ICT.
